Speaking on the BBC Radio Five Live Football Daily Podcast, Michail Antonio has been full of praise for Craig Dawson.

The centre-half joined West Ham last summer, and to be honest, there wasn’t much fanfare surrounding his arrival from Watford.

However, since coming in, he’s barely put a foot wrong, and while he wasn’t signed to be a key player for the Hammers, he’s now one of the club’s most important figures at the back.

Antonio has been blown away by Dawson, labelling him ‘unbelievable’.

What’s been said?

Antonio spoke about Dawson.

“He’s been unbelievable, he’s been a rock at the back, he’s like an old-school centre-half. He’s tough, he fights, he’s solid, he’s not scared to get down and deep, he’s been quality and he’s been solid for us. He came in not really to play, he’s taken his opportunity he’s taken his shirt and he’s not giving it up,” Antonio said.

Hit new heights

Dawson had a more than respectable career prior to joining West Ham, playing for both West Brom and Watford, but he’s hit new heights since playing under David Moyes at the London Stadium.

These days, he’s one of the most effective centre-halves in the Premier League, and while he may not have the skill or the poise of a top-level, modern, centre-back when it comes to keeping the ball out of danger areas, there aren’t too many better these days.

Dawson’s skillset may be limited, but it’s perfectly suited to David Moyes’ style, and that’s why he’s had the two best seasons of his career at West Ham.
