After being cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Coachella is officially back for 2022 and set to be bigger and better than ever.
The festival, which takes place over two weekends, started on Friday (April 15th) with performances from Harry Styles, Lil Baby, Phoebe Bridgers, Baby Keem and many others.
Day one of the Instagram-worthy festival also saw some special guests, with Daniel Ceaser bringing out Justin Bieber, Harry Styles performing with Shania Twain and Anitta presenting Snoop Dogg.
The much-anticipated festival in Palm Springs, California, draws in crowds from across the world, but how many people are at Coachella 2022? Read on to find out its total capacity…
How many people are at Coachella 2022?
The desert festival, which takes place at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, draws in crowds of around 125,000 per day.
That means that around 750,000 people attend the festival in total over the six days.
In March 2016, the Indio City Council agreed to raise the Coachella attendance cap from 99,000 to 125,000 per day.
As reported by Desert Sun, festival promoter Goldenvoice submitted a proposal to Indio officials asking them to raise the attendance cap which was approved by council in a 3-0 vote.
This meant that from 2016, the festival could increase the number of tickets it sold.
Mayor Glenn Miller told Desert Sun that the change wouldn’t “have too much affect”. However, the venue size did have to be increased by 50 acres to accommodate the extra 150,000 guests over the two weekends.
Who is headlining Coachella 2022?
The Coachella Valley Music And Arts Festival has some incredible headliners in 2022.
On both Fridays, Harry Styles is headlining the Coachella main stage, with Lil Baby, Daniel Ceaser, Phoebe Bridgers, Big Sean and Baby Keem also performing amongst others.
Saturday sees headliner Billie Eilish closing the main stage, with Flume, Megan Thee Stallion, Disclosure, 21 Savage, Danny Elfman, Giveon, Anitta and many others joining her throughout the day.
After Kanye West pulled out last month, Coachella had to find a new headliner for Sunday. At late notice, the festival secured a joint set from Swedish House Mafia and The Weeknd.
Other artists performing on the Sunday are Doja Cat, Joji, Jamie xx, Run the Jewels, Karol G, Maggie Rogers, Ari Lennox, Banda MS and Fatboy Slim and many more.
