Nicolo Zaniolo scored a sensational hat-trick for Serie A side Roma on Thursday as Jose Mourinho guided his side to the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League. Liverpool and Tottenham fans will be impressed.
Zaniolo, 22, has returned from a long-term injury to shine under Mourinho this season. Clocking up 35 appearances this term, the Italy international has now had a hand in 16 goals – after four involvements on Thursday.
Not only did he net a hat-trick, he also laid on an assist for Tammy Abraham to net his 23rd of the season. Zaniolo’s future at Roma is not such a safe bet, though, given he is about to enter the last two years of his current deal.
In February, Roma Live reported that Liverpool and Tottenham had made enquiries over a move for Zaniolo – a player TuttoSport (as per TeamTalk) say is rated at £33million by Mourinho’s Roma. Below, is his hat-trick.
Zaniolo hat-trick: £33m is a bargain Liverpool, Tottenham must consider
Yes, there are some rough edges that need addressing. Zaniolo has already had a few injuries alongside the big one – so it needs to be considered, whether he is injury prone. As is his issues with discipline.
This season, he has picked up 11 yellow cards, and two red cards and that is a hindrance. But in Zaniolo, there is a proper player and at 22 – he is still incredibly young, yet experienced, with 104 Roma games under his belt.
At £33million, he is worth the risk and that is proven by his hat-trick in the 4-0 win over Bodo/Glimt – a side that beat Roma 6-1 in the group stages.
