The famed headmaster of Hogwarts will appear in Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore and fans of the Potterverse have some burning questions. One of which is, what did Dumbledore teach?
The third instalment in the Fantastic Beasts franchise dropped in UK cinemas on Friday, 8 April, and will release on 15 April, in the US. Fans can’t wait to explore Dumbledore and Grindelwald’s relationship as well as discover more about Dumbledore’s career history.
Harry Potter author, JK Rowling, revealed Dumbledore was gay in 2007 after a fan asked whether he ever finds love. However, Rowling did not reveal whether Grindelwald has reciprocated feelings for the professor.
The Secrets of Dumbledore focuses on the life of the iconic professor who eventually becomes the headmaster at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He taught many students in his day, but what subject did he actually teach?

What did Dumbledore teach?
Albus Dumbledore originally taught Transfiguration at Hogwarts but in Fantastic Beasts 3, he’s teaching Defence Against the Dark Arts.
Dumbledore’s change in career reportedly comes because he wasn’t in the correct position. Voldemort wanted Albus’ Defence Against the Dark Arts position, but Dumbledore refused to give him the job. Because of this, the position was cursed making it so a teacher would never last more than one year in the role.

Tom Riddle who later became Voldermort, had Dumbledore as his Transfiguration teacher for the entirety of his tenure at Hogwarts (1937-1945). During Tom Riddle’s time there, Galatea Merrythought taught Defense Against the Dark Arts.
Fans wondered why Dumbledore had switched subjects or whether there was an accidental plot mistake. One suggestion found in the books is that Minerva McGonagall returned to Hogwarts for a job in the Transfiguration department, under the Head of Department, Albus Dumbledore. When she was hired she taught Transfiguration, which explains why Dumbledore would have a career change in Fantastic Beasts.
