Jamie Carragher has stated that Ibrahima Konate has had a ‘brilliant start’ to his Liverpool career after scoring in back-to-back Champions League matches, as he told CBS Sports (13/04/22 at 10:30 pm).
On Wednesday night, Liverpool recorded a 3-3 draw against Benfica in the second leg of their Champions League showdown, with Carragher pointing out that Konate scored ‘exactly the same goal’ he netted in the first match.
It was another powering header from the 22-year-old and another top display from the club’s summer signing.
A lot of the talk has been around about the impact Luis Diaz has made since January, but Konate has been equally as important for the Reds.
Konate is perhaps the first change for Liverpool at centre-back, as Carragher praised the player.
“Konate scored exactly the same goal from the first leg,” said Carragher. “Nicolas Otamendi in the back of the net, as always.
“Brilliant start from that lad and he been brilliant since he has come in really to the Liverpool team.”

It’s interesting that Jurgen Klopp is playing Konate ahead of Joe Gomez at centre-back when he is making a change.
In previous years, Gomez could argue that he was the main guy alongside Virgil Van Dijk.
That long-term injury last season didn’t help the Englishman’s cause because he is now behind Joel Matip, as well as Konate.
It wouldn’t be a surprise if Gomez parts ways with the Reds in the summer, so he can earn those regular starts.
