Tottenham have joined Liverpool, Manchester United and Juventus in the race to sign Leicester star Youri Tielemans – who has spoken in the past at being “flattered” by interest from Spurs, during Mauricio Pochettino’s era.
Tielemans, 24, has rejuvenated his career at Leicester over the past three years. It comes after shining at boyhood club Anderlecht, only for a move to Monaco to fail. Leicester took a risk, signing him on loan in January 2019.
He then completed a permanent move to Leicester that summer, and has since sparkled for the Foxes – becoming a club icon for his stunning goal to win the FA Cup final against Chelsea. But now, he could move again.
That is because he is about to enter the final 12 months of his Leicester deal. The Telegraph say Leicester will entertain £25million. CM claim Tottenham have joined Liverpool, Juve and Manchester United in the race to sign him.
Back in 2019, Tielemans was linked with a move to Tottenham – during Pochettino’s era and he spoke about those rumours. He claimed it was “flattering” to be linked with a move to Spurs – which could now happen.
“(Manchester United and Spurs) are really big teams in England and in Europe so yeah, it’s flattering to hear those names,” Tielemans said in 2019, as per One Football. Ultimately, Leicester won the race to sign the Belgian.
Tielemans on Tottenham: Could Spurs get Leicester star in summer?
Tielemans has a big decision to make. The best club of the four is Liverpool, but would he join a Reds side that already boast Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Thiago? Tielemans would no longer be a regular, more rotation.
He certainly would not be first choice. But for Juventus, Spurs and United – he would be a wonderful signing. Alongside Rodrigo Bentancur, he could shine for Spurs and a move to London would be tempting, if they get fourth.
Manchester United is a huge club crying out for a Tielemans-like midfielder but without Champions League football – does Tielemans go to United? Juventus would be a bit different, but surely he’s prefer to stay in England.
