Brazil legend Roberto Carlos has labelled Paulo Dybala a ‘world-class player’ as Premier League giants Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United go head-to-head for the Juventus star, speaking to DAZN.
Five years ago yesterday, Dybala almost single-handedly knocked Barcelona out of the Champions League, announcing himself on the global stage with a truly wonderful performance at the Allianz Stadium.
At the time, you’d have got very long odds indeed on Dybala swapping one black-and-white clad club for another.
But reports linking the Argentina international with a summer switch to St James’ Park, via Corriere dello Sport, are as much a reflection of Newcastle’s new-found ambition as they are of Dybala’s inability to live up to his Ballon D’Or-winning, world-conquering potential in Turin.
Where next for Paulo Dybala?
Juventus announced last month that the former Palermo talisman will leave on a free this summer, overshadowed and ousted by Italian football’s latest Golden Boy, Dusan Vlahovic.
2002 World Cup winner Roberto Carlos, however, believes that talk of Dybala’s demise has been greatly exaggerated. This is still one of football’s most naturally gifted attackers we’re talking about after all.
“He’s a world-class player,” says Carlos, tipping his fellow South American to follow in his footsteps at the Santiago Bernabau.
“He (could play for) top clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona. You don’t know what’s going through his head but he’s a great player. For someone like him, the doors are always open.”

According to Corriere dello Sport, Tottenham Hotspur are currently leading the race for a player who narrowly slipped through Daniel Levy’s fingers during a drawn-out transfer saga in the summer of 2019.
A move to North London would see Dybala reunite with Dejan Kulusevski, Rodrigo Bentancur and former Juventus director Fabio Paratici.
Arsenal are also keen. What’s more, Dybala admitted, albeit all the way back in 2014, that he would relish the prospect of donning the iconic red-and-white shirt of the three-time Premier League champions.
