90Min claim Newcastle, West Ham, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Everton have all joined Tottenham in the race to sign Christian Eriksen from Brentford. He is out of contract this summer, and the race is hotting up.
Eriksen, 29, joined Brentford in the January window on a free after being released by Inter Milan. He was unable to play in Serie A, after his collapse at Euro 2020 in Copenhagen. Eriksen has made a sensational return.
Thomas Frank, who worked with Eriksen at Denmark youth level, decided to bring him back to the Premier League and he has since sparkled in a Brentford side, revived by the Dane. He scored in a win against Chelsea.
He also scored twice for Denmark in the last international break. Such form has clubs interested – especially with his Brentford contract due to expire in the summer. Tottenham are leading the race, keen on bringing him back.
He worked under Antonio Conte, playing a big part in the Nerrazzuri’s Serie A title. But Spurs are not alone – with Villa, Everton, Newcastle, West Ham and Palace all considering offers for the soon-to-be free agent.
Newcastle, West Ham, Villa, Palace, Everton or Spurs for Eriksen?
Eriksen needs a club where he will be first choice, to continue playing, made to feel welcome and continue his resurgence. Could Conte offer that to Eriksen? Perhaps not, but Champions League football will be tempting.
The playmaker loved his time at Spurs and that could possibly rule out a move to West Ham. Villa are likely to sign Philippe Coutinho permanently, lessening the need for Eriksen. Newcastle would be interesting.
He could be the unlikely face of the new project, while Everton and a reunion with Dele Alli does not seem unlikely. But the chance to remain in London, at Palace, might just be his ideal move – to play week in, week out.
