Borussia Monchengladbach sporting director Roland Virkus has issued a stern transfer message on Breel Embolo, who is a reported target for West Ham.

Speaking to Kicker, the German official revealed that he is eager to keep hold of the 52-cap Swiss international this summer, with West Ham keen on signing Embolo ahead of the transfer window.

As reported by the Sunday Mirror, the Irons are looking at the Bundesliga striker as an option to bolster their attacking options, with West Ham relying heavily on Michail Antonio for the past two seasons.

With the Hammers set for another European finish this season, David Moyes’ side need to get serious when it comes to adding depth in the attack, and Gladbach star Embolo could be ideal.

Strong and clinical in the frontline, the 25-year-old has the qualities and potential to play for West Ham, but for Gladbach’s sporting director, the Bundesliga side are desperate to retain Embolo this summer.

Virkus said: “I will fight for the boys. I don’t want to sell any of the guys. It can’t be ruled out that they will pursue other goals for themselves. In the event that no agreement can be found, one would have to consider how to solve the situation.”

A striker is West Ham’s number one transfer priority this summer, and Embolo could be a solid option for Moyes’ side if the east London side can test Gladbach’s patience for the Swiss international.

With seven goals in all competitions and a seasoned attacker in a top European league, West Ham could tempt Gladbach into selling Embolo if the Irons submit a strong offer for the forward despite the sporting director’s latest comments on the striker.
