Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer is ‘convinced’ that Thomas Muller is staying at the Bundesliga champions amid reported interest from Premier League duo Everton and Newcastle United, speaking to BR24

With all due respect two a pair of historic footballing institutions, why on earth would Muller swap guaranteed silverware and Champions League football for an Everton or Newcastle side who, put together, have mustered fewer points in 2021/22 than Bayern have all on their own?

That was the question on everybody’s lips when one of the oddest transfer rumours of the year reared it’s head in March.

According to BILD, Newcastle United have identified Muller as a potential marquee signing ahead of the first summer of the Saudi Arabian era, even if a 32-year-old forward is totally at odds with young, hungry, up-and-coming talents that the nouveau-riche Magpies appear to be prioritising.

Then again, if you can’t make an exception with Thomas Muller, when can you?

Will Thomas Muller really leave Bayern Munich?

Everton are interested too. Reportedly.

But, in an era where ‘one club men’ are becoming about as rare as a commanding Harry Maguire performance, Muller looks set to buck the trend.

“I’m firmly convinced that Thomas Muller belongs to FC Bayern like the Frauenkirche (church) belongs to Munich. I’m firmly convinced he will end his career at FC Bayern,” says a confident Hainer.

Then again, few expected that David Alaba would ride off into the sunset and leave the Allianz Arena behind.

Hainer, after all, insisted that there was no problem between Alaba and Bayern, just a few short months before a player who had spent his entire professional career in the iconic red shirt joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2021.

The Bayern bosses were relucent to meet Alaba’s eye-watering wage demands and shatter their wage structure. Fortunately, it seems that Bayern and Muller are on the same page. BILD claiming that a new deal – that could tie down a living legend until 2025 – should to be a formality.

A World Cup, Champions League and ten-time Bundesliga winner, the evergreen Muller is in the midst of another stellar campaign.

The rampant Robin to Robert Lewandowski’s all-conquering Batman, he’s just two shy of matching last season’s remarkable tally of 22 assists.
