Arsenal and Liverpool have dropped off in the race for Benfica star Darwin Nunez, with Chelsea, Manchester United and PSG now leading the race for the striker.
According to the Athletic, the Premier League duo and Mauricio Pochettino’s side are the favourites to land the attacker, who Benfica are open to selling this summer for around €70m (£58m).
Nunez has been one of the breakout stars in Europe this season, with the Uruguay international hitting an outstanding 31 goals in 34 appearances in all competitions, with the striker this weekend bagging a hat-trick.
Indeed, interest is high in the South American youngster, with Liverpool and Arsenal also reportedly interested in Nunez. However, it now looks like Chelsea, United and PSG will contest for the Benfica star.
Indeed, whilst the report states that these three European giants are interested in Nunez, only United realistically have a strong case for signing a striker this summer.
After all, PSG are now looking likely to retain Kylian Mbappe along with Lionel Messi and Neymar, whilst Chelsea have both Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku on their books, two expensive strikers who the west London club will likely struggle to offload if they are to sign Nunez.
Arsenal and Liverpool should still fancy their chances in signing Nunez

Nunez is set for a major move this summer, and with the Premier League well-suited to the youngster’s game, a transfer to Arsenal or Liverpool could still be an option despite interest from Chelsea and United.
Moreover, with the Gunners and the Reds both needing central strikers, Nunez could be tempted to a move to either of the Premier League sides ahead of Chelsea or United, given the projects on offer at Arsenal and Liverpool.
