Aston Villa are now looking to snap up PSV Eindhoven midfielder Ibrahim Sangare, a player believed to be on the Newcastle United radar.
That’s according to a report from Dutch newspaper Voetbal International, who claim that Gerrard was in the stands to watch PSV against Leicester City on Thursday.
It’s worth noting that Villa do play Leicester later this month, so maybe Gerrard was checking up on how Brendan Rodgers’ side are getting on.
Yet it’s now suggested that Gerrard was there to see Sangare and PSV teammate Noni Madueke ahead of making summer moves for the duo.
It has been well-documented that Gerrard wants midfield reinforcements this summer and Sangare could be the man for the job.
The Ivorian ace showed major potential with Toulouse before heading to PSV in the summer of 2020.
That move to the Eredivisie was seen as a surprise but Sangare continues to excel, operating as a powerful holding midfield player.
With a huge frame at 6ft 3in tall, Sangare is incredibly strong and offers something completely different to Villa’s current midfield options.
Sangare also has four goals in 21 Ivory Coast caps, meaning he has shown his ability to score from midfield too.

Branded ‘unstoppable’ by PSV boss Roger Schmidt, Sangare looks primed to move on from PSV and make a big move away.
Villa could swoop in but don’t think they will be the only club chasing the 24-year-old’s signature.
VI’s report notes that Newcastle were ‘concrete’ with their interest in Sangare in January and the Magpies may still be keen.
The signing of Bruno Guimaraes is unlikely to put Newcastle off Sangare, with more midfield reinforcements needed at St James’ Park.
Villa could end up in a real fight for Sangare’s signature this summer, but Gerrard is at least putting in the work ahead of a potential deal.
