Alan Shearer has included Tottenham star Son Heung-min in his TOTW column on the Premier League website after his hat-trick during Saturday evening’s 4-0 win over Aston Villa – labelling it the “perfect performance”.

Son, 29, had managed just 12 goals and seven assists in his first 35 games this season – but after his hat-trick against Aston Villa, he has scored six goals and got an assist in his last three. He is at the peak of his powers.

On Saturday evening, Steven Gerrard’s side did not deserve to lose 4-0 but the difference was simply Son’s finishing. Every chance he got, he took it. An instinctive weaker-foot finish opened the scoring early on.

His second goal came after Dejan Kulusevski had made it two – finishing with aplomb when played through by Harry Kane. His third was perhaps the hardest, but the best of the lot, sweeping one in with his right.

Shearer was very impressed with the South Korea skipper’s display: “Three shots on target. Three goals. It was a perfect performance in a match where clinical finishing was the difference.”

Shearer on Son: Tottenham star impossible to stop in this form

It was probably his best performance – even aside from the three goals – this season. The confidence Son gained from his goals allowed him to play with freedom and without pressure, and it certainly showed as Villa folded.

£22million signing (Mirror) Son was near perfect, as Shearer says. Spurs will need to count on him producing such form on a more consistent basis over the next few weeks – as well as Kane – if they are to pip Arsenal into fourth place.
