Michael Dawson was left amazed by Martin Odegaard’s stunning goal for Arsenal during their 2-1 defeat to Brighton on Saturday, as he told Sky Sports.

The former defender claimed that Odegaard, 23, had ‘no right’ to shoot from about 30 yards, as that brilliant effort wasn’t enough for Arsenal to secure any points.

With several star players missing – Kieran Tierney and Thomas Partey – Arsenal dropped further costly points in their quest to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League this season.

There was controversy surrounding Gabriel Martinelli’s disallowed goal, but at the end of the day, Arsenal were missing that spark they have been showcasing for a number of months now.

Nonetheless, Odegaard’s left-footed shot wowed ex-Premier League centre-back, Dawson, yesterday.

“Oh, it’s a goal,” said Dawson. “This is 25 yards or 35 yards it could be.

“Odegaard, he picks the ball up. He has no right in having a shot. It deflects over Sanchez. Wow.”

Arsenal have no time to feel sorry for themselves because they have a packed schedule to come and the race to finish fourth is now out of their hands.

It didn’t help matters for Mikel Arteta and his players when Tottenham rocked up to Villa Park hours later and put four goals past Steven Gerrard’s side.

Whilst Villa will be questioning how they didn’t manage to score yesterday, at the end of the day, Tottenham’s thriving front three were ruthless towards the Midlands club.

That isn’t good news for their north London rivals because, on top of that, Harry Kane hasn’t scored in two matches, yet Spurs have managed to put nine on the board.
