Cameron Carter-Vickers must stay at Celtic instead of returning to the Premier League with Wolverhampton Wanderers or Leicester City, former Scottish Premiership stalwart Richard Foster tells PLZ Soccer.

Barely a summer goes by without Celtic losing at least one star player. It was Odsonne Edouard, Kristoffer Ajer and Ryan Christie last time out.

Kieran Tierney in 2020. Moussa Dembele and Stuart Armstrong in 2019.

But why would anyone turn their back on Celtic right now?

A Celtic side on the verge of reclaiming the title from Old Firm rivals Rangers? A Celtic side who have made such remarkable progress under a genuinely elite-level tactician in Ange Postecoglou?

One who have automatic qualification into the Champions League group stages within their grasp.

Will Cameron Carter-Vickers stay at Celtic?

Carter-Vickers, the Tottenham Hotspur loanee who scored the winner in Sunday’s crucial 2-1 win at Ibrox, has played his way onto the radar of a host of Premier League clubs with reports linking Leicester, Burnley and Wolves – amongst others – with a £10 million summer swoop.

“I don’t get that,” says Foster, a Premiership winner with Rangers a decade ago. “Those teams – Leicester, Burnley and Wolves – I personally don’t get why he’d leave Celtic to go and play at those clubs.

“Stay at Celtic, win championships, play in the Champions League. I just think go and play in the Champions League and do well, and you’ll get a better move than a Wolves or Burnley.”

There is an option-to-buy clause in Carter-Vickers’ contract. It remains to be seen whether Celtic will – or can – stump up a fee that could make the USA international their new record signing.

And Tam MacManus, the former Hibernian defender, believes that, of all the clubs looking to snatch Carter-Vickers from under Celtic’s nose, there is one that stands out above the others.

“I’d maybe go to Leicester,” MacManus says. “I think he could get £80,000 a week at Leicester. How much would he get at Celtic? £30,000 a week?”
