Arsenal had been chasing a summer deal for Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin – but they are now believed to be cooling their interest.

Arsenal simply have to splash the cash on a new striker or two this summer.

Alexandre Lacazette is out of contract at the end of the season and the same goes for Eddie Nketiah.

As things stand, Folarin Balogun is the only recognised striker in the Arsenal first-team setup for next season.

That obviously can’t happen and Edu must be looking to bring strikers to Arsenal.

A popular name in Arsenal’s striker pursuit has been Calvert-Lewin.

The Athletic reported in February that several key decision makers at Arsenal were pushing for Calvert-Lewin to be signed.

The Athletic have also claimed that Calvert-Lewin is keen to join Arsenal. The Sun even suggested that Arsenal were readying a £60million bid for Calvert-Lewin.

Yet it now sounds like Arsenal are having second thoughts about signing the Everton ace.

The Telegraph claim that Arsenal are cooling their interest in signing Calvert-Lewin.

That’s not exactly a huge surprise. Yes, Calvert-Lewin is big, strong, physical, mobile, a threat in the air and a constant nuisance.

The problem is that Calvert-Lewin hasn’t scored since August.

A major injury that kept him out for four months will worry Arsenal, as will his goalless run since returning in January.

It sounds like Arsenal are just having some doubts about Calvert-Lewin’s suitability to be their big-ticket striker after a frustrating season.

With Newcastle United also keen, the Magpies may end up as favourites for Calvert-Lewin with Arsenal backing away.
