Wayne Rooney has told Sky Sports that he believes Tottenham will elbow Arsenal aside and finish in fourth place come the end of the season. It comes after Arsenal suffered a 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on Monday.

Goals from Jean-Philippe Mateta, Jordan Ayew and a brilliant run from Wilfried Zaha that saw the ex-Manchester United star score a penalty – saw Palace run riot against a very below-par Arsenal at Selhurst Park.

It comes after Tottenham beat Newcastle 5-1 in the Capital on Sunday, with the goal swing enough to push Spurs into fourth above Arsenal. The Gunners are still in a good position, boasting a game in hand over Spurs.

Rooney has spoken on Monday Night Football about the top-four race after watching Palace win 3-0 – and expects the experience in Tottenham’s squad to get them over the line, given Arsenal is very much a younger side.

“I look at them, and Arsenal have got a few young players, whereas looking at Tottenham – they have more experience and I think that will help Spurs just get over the line,” Rooney said, during his analysis on Sky Sports.

Rooney on Tottenham, Arsenal: Do Spurs now have the momentum?

Rooney makes a good point – Spurs have the momentum. Arsenal have suffered to straight defeats, albeit one of those against Liverpool, without scoring a single goal. Antonio Conte has his side firing.

Spurs have the experience, the better manager, and the better run of games. Arsenal not only lost 3-0 to Palace – but Kieran Tierney and Thomas Partey picked up injuries. Arsenal look as though they are losing momentum.
