Jermain Defoe has claimed that Dele Alli told him that ‘Real Madrid were on the phone to his agent’ when he was at Tottenham, as he told Sky Sports Premier League (03/04/22 at 1:55 pm).
The recently-retired striker shared that Alli made these comments to him a number of years ago, when things, of course, were going well for the now-struggling Everton player.
On Sunday, Everton were beaten 2-1 at West Ham, with Alli being an unused substitute by Frank Lampard,
Since Alli left Spurs during the January transfer window, he hasn’t started a game for the club, even at the weekend, when Donny van de Beek was injured in the warm-up, Lampard opted to bring in defender, Mason Holgate, into the starting XI, instead of the attacking midfielder.
All of it just proves how far the footballing cliff the 25-year-old has fallen, as Defoe shared ‘there is something wrong’.
“When It’s not happening for you at one club, then you go to another club, you feel you have something to prove,” said Defoe
“You get that fire back and want to impress the players in training. The manager and the coaches. I just think it’s strange.
“I remember having a conversation with Dele Alli and he said to me, not just speculation, he said to me ‘Real Madrid were on the phone to his agent’. This was a few years ago.
“To be linked with Real Madrid and later on you go to Everton, yet you still can’t get into the team, then there is something wrong.”

From that fresh-faced teenager that was signed up from MK Dons to the one that was repping England at the 2018 World Cup.
With the 2022 World Cup in Qatar coming up, Alli couldn’t be further away from Gareth Southgate’s thoughts.
Alli’s fall has been quite incredible and what’s even more alarming for the player is that it doesn’t show any signs of stopping.
He can only look at himself because, at the rate he is going, he isn’t even worthy of playing Premier League football next season.
