Wayne Rooney has said on Sky Sports Premier League (7:56pm, April 4, 2022) that Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has surprised him.
The former Manchester United and Everton star made the comments about Ramsdale in the build-up to the Premier League game between Crystal Palace and Arsenal at Selhurst Park in London on Monday evening.
The Derby County manager has admitted that he did not expect Ramsdale to be as good as he has turned out to be since he joined from Sheffield United for £24 million (The Athletic) in the summer of 2021.
Wayne Rooney on Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale
Rooney said about Ramsdale on Sky Sports Premier League (7:56pm, April 4, 2022): “He has surprised me, to be honest.
“I didn’t think he would come in and do as well as he has done for Arsenal. I think his character alone, I think he has brought a lot more to that back-four.”

Important player
In our opinion, Ramsdale is now one of the most important players in the Arsenal team.
The 23-year-old is the number one goalkeeper at Arsenal at the moment and is ahead of Bend Leno in the pecking order.
Ramsdale is very vocal between the posts and controls his penalty area well.
Now, of course, given that Aaron Ramsdale is only 23, we know that he will make mistakes from time to time.
That happens with all players, and highlighted more for goalkeepers.
Arsenal fans will have to accept that and support Ramsdale when he does make mistakes.
