Hubert Davis’ career so far
Not many in North Carolina will need introducing to the Winston-Salem native after his exploits with the Tar Heels between 1988 and 1992.
He still holds the UNC record for career three-point percentage, at .435.
After graduation in 1992 he entered the professional game, being drafted to the New York Knicks.
Davis spent four years in New York before moving to Toronto to play for the Raptors. This preceded moves to the Dallas Mavericks, Washington Wizards and the Detroit Pistons before the shooting guard called it quits after a year with the New Jersey Nets.
He returned to UNC-Chapel Hill as assistant coach in 2012 and by the time Roy Williams announced his resignation on April Fool’s Day, Davis was a firm favourite.
Davis’s NBA career three-point shot percentage ranks him second behind only former Chicago Bulls point guard and current Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr.

The 50-year-old, who graduated from the university with a degree in criminal justice in 1992, became the first African-American to lead the program at UNC.
“I love this university,” Davis said in a statement. “I played here, I earned my degree here, I fell in love with my wife here, I got married here, I moved here after I retired from the NBA and I have raised my family here. I’m proud to lead this team, and I can’t wait for all that comes next.”

As he said on being appointed boss of the Tar Heels, he met his wife on campus. She graduated a year after he did and they married six years later.
The 49-year-old is a native of South Carolina and her father, Bob Seigle, is a veteran of the US Army, according to Earnthenecklace.com.
Davis and his wife have three children: Elijah, the eldest, Bobbie Grace and Micah.
Elijah also will be playing college basketball for the University of Lynchburg in Virginia this season.
Davis said his mother died just before his junior year in high school and that he was raised by his father Hubert Sr.
“But the word generosity and the picture that comes to my mind is my wife,” Davis said in the interview, which can be seen on YouTube.
“I have never in my life ever, ever, met anyone more generous than her. … I pray that my kids have her heart.”
