Ousmane Dembele looked almost certain to leave FC Barcelona in the January window after he was booed by his own fans at the Camp Nou. Yet fast-forward to now, and things couldn’t be more different.
The France international has been reborn in 2022, with the attacker bagging an incredible eight assists in La Liga this year alone, with Dembele providing the game-winning pass this weekend as Pedri’s wondergoal secured a massive three points for Barcelona against Sevilla.
Indeed, with Newcastle United reportedly interested in signing Dembele this summer when his contract expires, interest in the winger will no doubt ramp up for the 24-year-old, yet so could Barcelona’s desire to tie the forward down to a new deal.
As per Barca Universal, Dembele was sensational for Xavi Hernandez’s side against Sevilla, with the winger receiving a 9/10 rating and being hailed as ‘spectacular’ as the right-sided attacker provided seven chances.
Moreover, as per GSFN, Dembele was applauded off the pitch by Barca supporters after being substituted, completing the redemption arch very few supporters thought would happen for the former Borussia Dortmund star.
Newcastle swoop for Dembele looking unlikely after Barcelona form
Dembele’s resurgence at Barcelona is something nobody saw coming, with the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner arguably the Catalan side’s most in-form player this year and an attacker the club would be stupid to let go for free this summer.
And whilst the footballing world has loved watching Dembele redeem himself to the Barcelona fans, his form will not be appreciated for the likes of Newcastle, who are keen on signing the 24-year-old this summer.
With the forward performing week-in week-out, Dembele’s form is making it impossible for Xavi to drop the winger, and a new Barcelona contract could now be in the pipeline if the Frenchman continues this stunning run.
