Jamie Carragher has stated that Emerson Royal is ‘not good enough’ for Tottenham Hotspur, as he told Sky Sports Premier League.
The former centre-back added that Antonio Conte could part ways with the player because he thinks it’s a position he will look at during the summer transfer market.
Emerson got on the scoresheet during Tottenham’s 5-1 thumping of Newcastle yesterday, but he only came into the side because of Sergio Reguilon’s injury.
With the Spanish left-footer out of action, Matt Doherty, whose form has picked of late, started as a left wing-back, with Emerson playing on his natural right side.
It’s the defensive part of Emerson’s game that Carragher doesn’t like and he highlighted that during his commentary.
“Oh, he’s not good enough,” said Carragher. “I do think down the road and going forward for Conte, it’s a position he’s going to be looking at.
“Doherty also plays down that right-hand side. Is he good enough for Spurs next season? He has been in great form of late. I think those are the positions they will be certainly looking at.
“Probably another centre-back to add to Dier and Romero.”

Cristian Romero was also purchased during the same summer transfer window as Emerson.
It’s fair to say that the duo have had two contrasting starts to life in north London.
But, this is where Conte is a master, and if he decides to keep the 23-year-old on, then it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him transform under the Italian.
Doherty is showing those signs already, albeit there is still a long way to go, but many have improved since he replaced Nuno Espirito Santo in the dugout.
