Destanni Henderson starred as South Carolina emerged victorious in the NCAA final, but who are her parents as she looks to a WNBA future?

The South Carolina Gamecocks are national champions for a second time after a comfortable win over the UConn Huskies.

A 64-49 win was enough for the Gamecocks to add to their 2017 triumph, while handing the Huskies a first defeat in 12 title games.

It was a fast start from South Carolina, up 22-8 after the first quarter, and 35-27 at the half-time break.

The Huskies closed to within six in the second half, but guard Destanni Henderson put in a strong performance to take victory away from the New Englanders.

After a title-winning performance, it left some wondering who Destanni Henderson’s parents are.

Destanni Henderson parents

Born in February 1999, Henderson was raised and play high school basketball for Fort Myers in her home state of Florida.

She moved to South Carolina to join the basketball programme in 2018.

Destanni Henderson’s parents are father Derrick Henderson and mother Joyel James.

She also has one brother, Jayden Strong and two sisters Ja’Ziah and Jada Strong.

Henderson’s parents, including her step-father, and siblings have been seen on occasion at some of her matches.

Not much is known about their personal lives.

At South Carolina, Henderson has been studying towards a major in criminology and criminal justice.

What has she achieved?

In 2018, Henderson was voted to the All-American team in her freshman year at South Carolina.

As well as claiming the NCAA title in 2022, she made the SEC first-team.

The guard has also played internationally for the United States in the FIBA AmeriCup in 2021, bringing home the gold medal.

Her current favourite player in the NBA is Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors.

The 23-year-old right-hander is also a fan of LA Lakers great LeBron James.
