Ianis Hagi has handed Rangers some encouraging news in his recovery from injury, with a video posted on Instagram. It comes less than 24 hours after Rangers suffered defeat to Celtic at Ibrox, losing 2-1 to the Hoops.

Hagi, 23, suffered a long-term knee injury during a 4-0 win over Stirling Albion in the Scottish Cup. He was forced to undergo surgery, and has since been ruled out for the remainder of the 2021-22 campaign.

Rangers have missed the playmaker’s ability to both score goals, and lay on assists – proof of which came on Sunday; lacking the creativity to unlock Celtic’s sturdy defence. Celtic’s win sees Rangers go six points behind.

But Hagi has handed Rangers some good, encouraging news not long after the defeat to Celtic with a video posted on his Instagram story. He uploaded a video of keepy uppies in the gym, with the caption: “It has been a while.”

Hagi update: Rangers desperately need him back next season

The midfielder is perfect for Rangers. Goals and assists are crucial, but Hagi has the eye for a pass that unlocks a defence – that little bit of magic to break down a defence. They have got to make sure he is fit for next season.

His Instagram then comes as a real boost for Rangers, to see him recovering well from the surgery – which he only underwent towards the end of January. A fit Hagi, alongside Ryan Kent and Joe Aribo, is a real threat.
