Leeds United may well fancy signing Barcelona defender Oscar Mingueza, but the player himself isn’t all that keen on a move to Elland Road.
Reports from SPORT late in March suggested that Leeds had picked out Mingueza as a player who could make a real difference next season.
Leeds had allegedly made contact about a summer deal, seemingly sensing an opportunity.
Mingueza was a favourite under Ronald Koeman but has played just eight times since Xavi took over.
There was an added belief at Barcelona that Mingueza to Leeds could help bring the price of Raphinha down, with the Catalan giants keen to snatch the Brazilian.
All hopes appear to be doomed though with Mingueza hardly chomping at the bit to sign for Leeds.
That’s the claim emerging from Mundo Deportivo anyway, who state that Mingueza ‘would not consider’ signing for Leeds this summer.
Mingueza is still expected to leave Barcelona this summer but seemingly doesn’t exactly fancy a trip to West Yorkshire.
Mingueza, 22, has come all the way up through the Barca ranks. A Catalan kid, Mingueza will have to be absolutely sure about his next move I order to leave the Camp Nou.
Yet having failed to build on one Spain cap, the time is right for Mingueza to go and play games – so why not Leeds?
Mingueza’s ability to play at right back or centre back could make him a fine long-term successor to Luke Ayling, even all the way down to the hairstyle!
With fellow Spaniards Junior Firpo, Diego Llorente and Rodrigo also at Elland Road, Mingueza would also have a strong base of players to help him settle in England.
Leeds may not be quite as glamorous as Barcelona, but Mingueza shouldn’t instantly turn his nose up at a move to the Whites.
