According to Sport, Newcastle lead the race to sign Real Madrid forward Rodrygo, who is also a target for Liverpool.

What’s the story?

Well, the Spanish news outlet believe Real Madrid are planning a summer spending spree, but will require some sales to afford it.

Marco Asensio, Eden Hazard, Luka Jovic and Mariano Diaz also find themselves up for sale, along with the Brazilian.

Rodrygo joined Real Madrid at the age of just 17, signing in a deal worth €45m (£38m) as Los Blancos hunted for the next Neymar, a pursuit which also saw them sign Vinicius Junior.

However, the 21-year-old has not kicked on this season like Vinicius Junior has, scoring just two goals in 36 appearances this season.

Now, he could end up at Newcastle, although Liverpool are another potential destination for the special prospect.

According to journalist Jorge Nicola on Youtube, Jürgen Klopp wants the South American wonderkid at Anfield.

Interestingly, Rodrygo has been compared to one of the greatest players of all time, Cristiano Ronaldo.

The youngster was likened to the six-time Ballon d’Or winner after scoring a hat-trick against Galatasaray in the Champions League.

However, Rodrygo called on the comparisons to stop, as he didn’t want to weight himself down with the “pressure” of replacing Ronaldo at Real Madrid.

Back in 2019, the Independent quote him as saying: “I don’t want to weigh myself down with the pressure of replacing Cristiano Ronaldo.”

Things haven’t gone smoothly for Rodrygo at the Santiago Bernabeu, but at the age of just 21, he still has time to fulfil his incredible potential.
