Tyrick Mitchell impressed Rob Green on BBC Radio 5 Live with the Crystal Palace star’s full England debut against Ivory Coast, amid transfer interest from Tottenham and Newcastle.
Gareth Southgate rewarded the full-back for his strong Premier League campaign with his Three Lions breakthrough this month. Mitchell had never featured in an international side at any level prior to the March fixtures. But earned his debut from the bench on Saturday.
The 22-year-old played the final 29 minutes of Saturday’s friendly with Switzerland before making his full bow on Tuesday night. Southgate started Mitchell against Ivory Coast as the England gem enjoyed an hour at Wembley matched against Arsenal forward Nicolas Pepe.

Ivory Coast could not test Mitchell as much as they – and Green – may have liked as Serge Aurier’s red card left Patrice Beaumelle’s side playing with 10-men for 50 minutes. But the Eagles product still showed flashes of his potential that had merited Southgate’s attention.
Mitchell’s Crystal Palace performances have also caught the eye of Newcastle, Tottenham and Manchester City ahead of the transfer window. The Sun note the trio are tracking the London-born left-back, who is loving life under Patrick Vieira at Selhurst Park this season.
He has started all 29 of the Eagles’ Premier League games so far this term and featured for all but eight minutes. The full-back has also laid on two assists, and has shone defensively.
Rob Green hails ‘excellent’ Mitchell for England amid Newcastle, Tottenham links
Aurier’s red card meant Ivory Coast did not test Mitchell as much as they will have wanted against England, denying Tottenham and Newcastle the chance to judge the Crystal Palace talent for a summer transfer. But his display still impressed former Three Lions ace Green.

“Excellent, a really good performance from Tyrick Mitchell,” he said. “He was not tested as much as we would like, but showed real assurance – a consummate performance.”

Mitchell gleefully joined England’s attacks down the left-hand channel on Tuesday to offer Jack Grealish support. He also found Ollie Watkins with a driven cross, but the Aston Villa striker flashed his shot just wide. Arsenal’s Pepe was also barely a threat at the other end.
