According to Tutto Mercato Web, Tottenham and Newcastle can now sign Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij for just €20m (£17m).

However, Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool will hope any deal falls through.

What’s the story?

Well, Tutto Mercato Web believe Inter Milan are ready to sell the Dutchman, and are hoping to sign Gleison Bremer to replace him.

However, the Brazilian defender is wanted by Liverpool.

According to Tuttosport, the Reds are leading the race to sign Bremer, and Klopp wants to submit a bid for his services.

Tutto Mercato Web claim that Torino want €30m (£25m) for the centre-back.

Of course, if Inter Milan sell De Vrij, you would expect them to leapfrog Liverpool in the race to sign Bremer, as they’ll have a gap in the XI for him, and also the funds to sign him.

Liverpool shouldn’t worry about Tottenham and Newcastle pursuit

If Klopp really is intent on signing Bremer, you can understand why he’d be feeling anxious about the news regarding De Vrij.

However, we believe the German should drop his pursuit of the South American all together, as he isn’t needed at Anfield.

Klopp already has Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez to choose from, while Fabinho can also play at centre-back if need be.

Even if one of these options leaves Anfield this summer, the Reds still have enough to cope.

Therefore, we see no reason why Liverpool should make Bremer the focus of their summer transfer plans – he simply isn’t needed on Merseyside.
