The Athletic journalist Phil Hay has reported that Leeds United are maintaining that Raphinha has just one release clause in his current contract, amid rumours linking the winger with Liverpool and Barcelona.
The well-known and well-respected journalist has claimed in The Athletic that there is no release clause in Raphinha’s contract at Leeds for clubs to sign him in the summer transfer window.
However, according to Hay, Leeds have told him that there is one release clause that becomes active should the Whites get relegated to the Championship at the end of the season.
Raphinha’s release clause at Leeds United
Hay wrote in The Athletic: “You’ll have read in various places about a release clause in Raphinha’s current deal.
“I’ve asked about this several times and been told consistently the only release clause in the contract relates to relegation (and in that scenario, it goes without saying that he would be leaving the club anyway).
“The new contract Leeds want him to sign, however, would include a release clause at a fixed price.”

Liverpool and Barcelona rumour
We have covered reports in recent weeks claiming that Raphinha has a release clause in his contract.
Brazilian news outlet UOL reported this month that there is a release clause of £70 million in the winger’s contract.
UOL have reported that Liverpool, Barcelona and Bayern Munich all have made moves to sign the winger from Leeds.
Uncertain future
In our opinion, the future of Raphinha will not be resolved for a while.
Now, it is clear that clubs such as Liverpool and Barcelona are keen on the Brazil international winger.
Leeds will be aware that they cannot keep hold of Raphinha forever, and a good transfer fee could convince them to cash in on the Brazilian.
