Roy Keane has heaped praise on Tottenham transfer target, Gareth Bale, and how ‘fantastic’ he has been for Wales, as he told ITV Sport.

The outspoken TV pundit thinks Bale, whose game time at Real Madrid has been limited over the years, has done ‘brilliantly’, as a result for his country.

Last season, Spurs fans got a second glimpse, albeit from home, of Bale when he returned to their colours for one season on a loan deal.

Despite being past his best, the 32-year-old still managed 11 goals from 20 Premier League matches, so either Bale is better than people give him credit for or England’s top-flight is just bang average.

Either way, after Bale’s brace helped Wales edge ever closer to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, this was the verdict Keane delivered of the four-time European Cup winner.

“For a player that isn’t playing regularly, his two goals the other night were fantastic,” said Keane.

“Okay the free-kick, but the second goal was just, the sharpness from him.

“His stats for Wales, over the last six, seven or eight years, in terms of goals and assists have been fantastic. And considering he hasn’t been playing regularly at club level.

“Fair play to the kid, he has done brilliantly.”

If Wales fail to qualify for the 2022 World Cup, then many are questioning whether Bale will retire.

He is out-of-contract at Real Madrid in the summer and isn’t going to sign on the dotted line.

There are suggestions that Tottenham want to re-sign the Welsh wizard, which does seem realistic given that he returned to the club last season for one campaign ahead of the European Championships.

So, with the 2022 World Cup set in November, he is going to need a window of football if his country are to compete with the best of the best later on this year.
