Chris Sutton has stated that he just doesn’t understand why Tottenham Hotspur striker, Harry Kane, gets ‘so much stick’, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.

The former Blackburn title-winner was reacting to fans questioning Kane’s England record and how he has got his goals.

The Tottenham hitman scored his 49th goal for his country on Saturday when England beat Switzerland 2-1 in a friendly at Wembley.

Kane scored from the penalty spot, as some fans rang up 606 to tell Sutton that the England captain doesn’t compare to those around him because of the number of goals he has scored from the spot.

Added with the fact that he doesn’t turn up to big games.

It left Sutton baffled by the ‘criticism’ towards Kane, who is edging closer to making history for his country.

“Harry Kane gets a lot of flak,” said Sutton. “I just don’t get it.

“I don’t get why he gets so much stick. I know he had a dodgy start to the season because he chucked his toys out of the pram, after the Manchester City thing.

“But, Harry Kane is a top player. I don’t understand the criticism of him.”

The one big dark cloud over Kane’s head is the fact that he doesn’t have a trophy medal in his cabinet.

Perhaps if he wins a few trophies, whether with his country or at club level, then he will probably earn more respect.

But, at the end of the day, from an individual perspective, he has been outstanding.

Not only is he surging further up the Premier League’s top-scorer charts, but he is also joint-second with Sir Bobby Charlton regarding goals for England.
