Tony Cascarino has urged Liverpool to make a move for Conor Gallagher, but acknowledged that Chelsea ‘would never sell’ to their Premier League rivals.

The 22-year-old has been dazzling on loan at Crystal Palace this season after being deemed surplus to requirements at Chelsea for now.

Former Blues hitman Cascarino has revealed that he doubts whether Thomas Tuchel will use him next season and believes that a transfer to Liverpool may benefit the young England international a lot more.

Gallagher shone on his full Three Lions debut against Switzerland on Saturday, illustrating that he’s certainly not only effective in the Palace squad.

He told talkSPORT: “Conor Gallagher is an outstanding attacking midfielder who always looks like he’s going to get a goal or make an assist. Liverpool, for me, if they had a player like that as well adding him behind their front three, with his ability to get goals.

“Chelsea would never sell him to Liverpool, but they’d do really well with him. Conor Gallagher will get goals. Whether or not he will get his chance at Chelsea, I don’t know.”

Cascarino is right.

Liverpool do need much more penetration from midfield, much more goals.

And Gallagher, who has netted eight times for the Eagles this season, certainly knows where the net is.

However, the prospect of him going to Anfield is, as Cascarino mentioned, pure fantasy.

When the smoke clears from the sanctions imposed on Chelsea due to Roman Abramovich’s ownership, it’ll be business as usual.

And selling one of your brightest prospects to a direct Premier League rival will never happen.
