According to BILD, Chelsea forward Timo Werner is on the radar of Newcastle, as the Magpies look to spend their newfound riches.

A move failed to materialise in January, with Chris Wood the only attacking reinforcement, although a deal could still be struck in the summer.

However, after WhoScored posted an embarrassing statistic involving Liverpool glovesman Alisson, the Magpies must ignore the German.

What’s the story?

Well, rather shockingly, Alisson has created more clear-cut goalscoring opportunities than Werner has this season.

Yes, a goalkeeper has created more goalscoring opportunities than a £45m striker playing for the European Champions.

It does not reflect well on Werner, to say the least.

Clearly, it shows that the German isn’t even getting into dangerous areas, nor is he scoring many goals himself with only seven in 28 games this term.

Alisson’s ball actually led to an assist, as Mohamed Salah controlled a long-range pass and slotted in at the Kop End during a 3-1 win over Norwich.

Newcastle must avoid Timo Werner move

In our view, the Magpies should steer clear of Werner – there are better options out there.

The Germany international has only scored 19 goals in 80 games since his big-money move to Chelsea.

In fairness, Thomas Tuchel hasn’t really instilled much faith in him, having signed Romelu Lukaku to shove the former RB Leipzig man down the pecking order.

However, Werner has clearly struggled to adapt to Premier League football, and with the resources to sign nearly any forward in Europe, Newcastle would be fools to choose the 26-year-old.
