Yesterday, it was revealed that things have gone from bad to worse for Mesut Özil at Fenerbahçe, following his departure from Arsenal in 2020.
The 33-year-old has been suspended by the Turkish giants, along with Ozan Tufan, but what happened? Let’s take a look…
Why has Mesut Özil been suspended?
Well, according to the Mirror, Özil has been suspended by Fenerbahçe following a verbal altercation with interim manager Ismail Kartal.
The German was substituted at half-time during Fenerbahçe’s 2-1 win over Konyaspor in the Süper Lig on Sunday.
It is unclear what was said between the pair, although the alleged incident is believed to have happened following his withdrawal at half-time.

Özil has been kicked out of the first-team, and along with Tufan, will not be allowed to train or play first-team games until further notice.
After what happened between him and Mikel Arteta in north London, it’s not ideal for the attacking midfielder to be involved in further controversy.
Potential lifeline for Mesut Özil at Fenerbahçe
It’s not looking good for Özil at Fenerbahçe, but things could soon change.
Kartal isn’t guaranteed to be in charge next season, so his potential replacement could come in and reintegrate the former Real Madrid maestro.

After all, Özil is a key player for Fenerbahçe. In 22 Süper Lig appearances this season, he has scored eight goals, while also providing two assists.
With his talent, the Turkish giants surely won’t want to keep him on the sidelines for too long, or it will cost them on the pitch.
Hopefully, the former Arsenal playmaker can turn things around in Turkey.
