According to TEAMtalk, Leeds have joined Chelsea and Real Madrid in the race to sign Anderlecht wonderkid Sergio Gomez.

What’s the story?

Well, TEAMtalk believe Victor Orta is a big fan of the £9,000-a-week maestro, who has been in excellent form for the Belgian giants.

So far this season, Gomez has scored six goals, while also providing 14 assists in 41 appearances.

Interestingly, the Spain Under-21 international has played predominately as a left-back this season, so to have 20 goal involvements to his name is mightily impressive.

It’s no wonder Leeds are keen to sign the former Borussia Dortmund gem.

TEAMtalk add that Jesse Marsch and Orta face competition from Chelsea and Real Madrid, both of whom will surely pose a real threat.

The news comes as Junior Firpo struggles in Yorkshire, as his first season in the Premier League has been disrupted by injuries.

Orta desperately needed to bring a new left-back to Elland Road last summer after Ezgjan Alioski departed, and he did so when signing Firpo.

However, as aforesaid, the 25-year-old has struggled, so it looks like it may be a case of going back to the drawing board for Leeds.

Marsch seems to enjoy an intense, possession based style, which Gomez would fit into seamlessly.

The Spaniard is a fine technician, and his deliveries would also make Leeds a real threat from set-pieces.

If they can somehow fend off Chelsea and Real Madrid, this would be an excellent signing by Leeds and Orta.
