Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, Duncan Castles has shared some news about reported Tottenham target Antonio Rudiger and the German’s current situation.

The centre-back is out of contract in the summer, so, inevitably, he’s being linked to some of the biggest clubs in the world.

However, while Rudiger could be signed on what would be known as a free transfer, this Bosman move would still be incredibly expensive.

Indeed, according to Castles, Rudiger is asking for a colossal signing on fee of €30m (£25m).

What’s been said?

Castles shared what he knows about Rudiger.

“The news we have today is of the financial terms that Antonio Rudiger is asking for to sign a contract with whichever of the elite European football clubs can be convinced to take him. He’s offering his services to top clubs, Real Madrid are one of the candidates, Manchester United, Juventus and Bayern Munich have also been offered the player. The price he is asking for is a €30m (£25m) signing on fee, and a basic wage of €6m (£5m) after that,” Castles said.

Still a bargain

£25m does seem to be eye-watering for a signing-on fee, but let’s be honest, that’s still a bargain for a player this talented.

Think about it, how much would a Champions League-winning centre-back cost you to buy from a club like Chelsea? You’re probably looking at double that amount. After all, Ben White cost £50m from Brighton and with all due respect for White, he’s nowhere near as accomplished as Rudiger.

For a team like Tottenham who need a centre-back, this move may still be a wise one.
