Ryan Kent has been quoted by BBC Live’s coverage of Rangers beating Red Star Belgrade as praising Ibrox midfielders Ryan Jack and Glen Kamara for their work rate in the middle of the park, on Thursday night in Serbia.

Rangers suffered a 2-1 defeat to Red Star Belgrade in their last 16 Europa League clash on Thursday night – but progress into the quarter-finals thanks to a 3-0 win in the first leg. The Gers go through, 4-2 on aggregate.

James Tavernier, Alfredo Morelos and Leon Balogun got the goals in the first leg – and Kent netted his side’s fourth. He cancelled out Mirko Ivanic’s opener – before El Fardou Ben Nabouhane scored in the 93rd minute.

So, a loss for Rangers on the night, who had Allan McGregor to thank for a superb display – with Red Star having 13 shots on target. Kent applauded Kamara and Jack for their efforts in midfield to nullify Red Star.

“We came here to win today, but the ultimate goal was to progress to the next round”, Rangers star Kent said, as per BBC Live. “The amount of running that Ryan Jack and Glen Kamara did in midfield was exceptional.”

Jack was everywhere, producing two tackles and a clearance throughout. Kamara was also superb – perhaps better on the ball, completing 25 of 27 passes and getting an assist for Kent, according to stats on WhoScored.

The form of Kamara and Jack has been crucial to Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side of late and if Rangers are to stand any chance of reaching the semi-finals, both will have to be at their absolute best.
