Tim Sherwood has told The Analysis Show that he has changed his mind about Arsenal midfielder Martin Odegaard – claiming he is playing at an “unbelievable” level, after first questioning the addition of the Norwegian.
Odegaard, 23, produced another masterclass of a performance in the middle of the park during a 2-0 win over Leicester on Sunday. While he did not score or create a goal, his transition in midfield was nearly perfect.
Whether it was receiving the ball on the turn, dropping deep to feed the attackers or his midfield combinations with the likes of Granit Xhaka, Thomas Partey or Alexandre Lacazette – Odegaard was impeccable.
Tottenham icon Sherwood has admitted that he has changed his mind on the £85,000-a-week (Mirror) Arsenal man. He questioned the signing initially, but now thinks Odegaard has been an “unbelievable” addition.
“Odegaard has been an unbelievable signing. He’s taken to the Premier League. When he first come I thought, he’s nice and tidy. But what does he really do? They need to build their team around this kid, he’s that good.”
Sherwood on Odegaard: Arsenal star proving to be another bargain
Ben White cost Arsenal £50million. Aaron Ramsdale was signed for £30million, despite the presence of Bernd Leno. Odegaard for £40million, after a decent-ish loan spell. £120million of talent on three players.
But all three have proved to be absolutely pivotal in turning Arsenal from a Europa League-challenging side, into a top-four club. The Gunners are in pole to get fourth, and these three are the first to thank for that.
