Tottenham have reportedly tabled an offer to sign Barcelona attacker Memphis Depay in the summer. A player, that admitted back in 2015 he had rejected a move to Tottenham – instead joining Manchester United.
Depay, 28, joined Barcelona in the summer from Lyon – after 76 goals and 55 assists in 178 appearances with the French club. He has done well at Barcelona, without setting the league alight – scoring 10 goals in 27 games.
Spanish journalist Gerard Romero claimed on Twitch that Tottenham have made an offer for Depay. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s form has limited to Depay to substitute games of late, as has the arrival of Ferran Torres.
That is, despite Depay claiming back in 2015 that he had chosen to reject a move to Tottenham to join Manchester United. Of course, Depay joined Manchester United for £31million (Metro), but endured a difficult spell.
“I spoke to Liverpool, they were really concrete – but because of an injury in their team they waited,” Depay told AD. “Paris Saint-Germain came – they were really concrete too. One year earlier, Tottenham was interested.”

Back then, Tottenham did not have the stadium. They had Mauricio Pochettino, but the chance to work under Antonio Conte is much, much more exciting. They still boast Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.
While Spurs look unlikely to get Champions League football this season, the chance to be part of a side with those players, that stadium, in London, with Conte, will surely appeal to a player who is on the fringes at Barcelona.
