Jamie Carragher has claimed that Newcastle United’s Miguel Almiron is ‘similar’ to Chelsea forward, Timo Werner, as he told Sky Sports Premier League.

The former defender added that Almiron ‘always’ puts a shift in for Newcastle, but just like Chelsea’s out-of-sorts player, he ‘lacks a bit of quality’.

Newcastle showcased their spending power during the January transfer window when the likes of Bruno Guimaraes arrived on Tyneside.

Come the summer, even more changes will be made to this Newcastle squad, which could stem the end for Almiron at St James’ Park.

Nonetheless, this was the brief point Carragher made of Almiron and Werner, who have both struggled during their days in the Premier League.

“He put a shift in, he always does,” said Carragher. “He just lacks a bit of quality. Similar to Timo Werner.”

In truth, whilst it will probably be the end of the road for Almiron, 28, in the summer, Werner could find himself in the same boat.

Following Roman Abramovich being sanctioned by the UK Government, it has put Chelsea as a football club on hold, including the west London outfit not being able to sell players, buy players or hand out new deals, at this moment in time.

But, if a new buyer can be found by the time summer arrives, then it wouldn’t be a surprise if Werner is one of the players that heads for the Stamford Bridge exit door.

Either way, whilst both Werner and Almiron have the quick movement off the ball and ability to move the ball with speed, their final ball quality is just beyond abject.
