Fabrizio Romano has reported on Twitter that Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are in talks with Fiorentina over the permanent transfer of Lucas Torreira.

The well-known and well-respected journalist has reported that Fiorentina are more than happy with how Arsenal-owned Torreira is doing for them at the moment.

Torreira, who cost Arsenal £26 million in transfer fees when they signed him from Sampdoria in the summer of 2018 (BBC Sport), moved to Fiorentina on a season-long loan deal in the summer of 2021.

The midfielder has made 21 starts and three substitute appearances in Serie A so far this season.

The Fiorentina no. 18 has scored three goals and provided one assist in those games.

Romano has claimed that Fiorentina have an option to make the loan deal for the 26-year-old Uruguay international midfielder permanent for €15 million (£12.62 million).

Sensible for Arsenal to sell Lucas Torreira

In our view, it would make sense for Arsenal to sell Torreira to Fiorentina for €15 million (£12.62 million).

Yes, it would mean a loss for the Gunners, but the 26-year-old midfielder clearly does not feature in the plans of manager Mikel Arteta.

Torreira spent the 2020-21 season on loan at Atletico Madrid, and now he is at Fiorentina.

In our opinion, Arsenal should sell Torreira and then invest that transfer fee in summer signings.
