Alan Shearer lauded Aaron Ramsdale’s first-half save during Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Leicester City as ‘superb’, as he told Premier League Productions (13/03/22 at 5:35 pm).

With the scoreline reading 1-0, Ramsdale palmed Harvey Barnes’ header over the bar following a cross from Marc Albrighton.

There must be something about Ramsdale pulling off high-quality saves against Leicester because his one to deny James Maddison’s free-kick during the reverse fixture was even better.

The save off Barnes’ header wasn’t in that category, but it was of a seriously high level and one that proves how well the 23-year-old Englishman is performing this season.

And Shearer, when watching back the footage of Ramsdale’s save, was loving what he was seeing from Arsenal’s number one.

“Superb save,” said Shearer. “Very good ball in and a great header. Brendan thinks it’s in.

“Big, strong hand. Gets it away. Superb.”

At the start of the campaign, many were questioning why Arsenal were paying big bucks for a player that had suffered back-to-back relegations.

But the eyes of the north London club’s recruitment team and Mikel Arteta himself have done a quite magnificent job.

Not only is Ramsdale proving them wrong, but so is someone like Ben White, who is only in his second full season in England’s top-flight.

There were many occasions last season when the powers that be could have sacked Arteta, but fast forward today, and that level of patience is proving to be a masterstroke.
