Roy Keane has said on Sky Sports Premier League (6:23pm, March 12, 2022) that Tottenham Hotspur central defender Eric Dier should have done better for the first goal that Cristiano Ronaldo scored for Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Ronaldo scored his first goal for Manchester United in the Premier League game against Tottenham after just 12 minutes.

After Fred teed up the ball for him, the Portugal international forward struck home from 25 yards out.

It was a fierce strike that did not allow Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris any chance to save.

It was a world-class goal, but former United star Keane believes that Tottenham defender Dier should have done better.

The former Real Madrid and Juventus star had a lot of time and space to pick his spot, and England international defender Dier, who can also operate as a midfielder, should have closed down earlier.

Roy Keane on Eric Dier v Cristiano Ronaldo

Keane said on Sky Sports Premier League (6:23pm, March 12, 2022): “Dier has got to get out, but genius.”

Ronaldo scored two more goals to complete his hat-trick, as United won 3-2 against Tottenham to enhance their chances of finishing in the top four of the Premier League table this season.

Tottenham will be bitterly disappointed with the result and will be determined to bounce back in their effort to clinch a Champions League place.
