There is a huge story sweeping through the Premier League right now, as Chelsea face financial ruin after the UK sanctioned Roman Abramovich.

The Blues are currently unable to sell tickets or merchandise in the club shop, and their credit cards have now been frozen by Barclays.

With the situation yet to be sorted, Arsenal could soon receive a major boost from the perilous situation at Chelsea.

What’s the story?

Well, according to The Times, a nine-point deduction could soon be heading Chelsea’s way.

Unless the Blues find a buyer soon, they run the risk of triggering an insolvency event.

According to The Athletic, Chelsea are even unable to fill the team bus with fuel at the moment, after company credit cards were frozen.

As per the Premier League regulations, an insolvency event could see them hit with a nine-point deduction.

For Arsenal, this would be welcome news.

The Gunners are currently fourth in the Premier League, although they are eight points behind Chelsea, who sit third.

If Thomas Tuchel does see his side lose nine points, that would propel Arsenal into third place, giving them a very, very good chance of qualifying for the Champions League.

Will Arsenal benefit from Chelsea problems?

To put it simply, Chelsea need to find a buyer quickly.

The Blues pay £28m-a-month in wages, so you can figure out the implications of that, seeing as they are currently unable to buy petrol for the team bus.

According to Sky Sports, there are ten parties interested in buying Chelsea, although Abramovich is said to have placed a £3bn price tag on the Blues.

However, it is now down to Chelsea to sort the sale after Abramovich was sanctioned, and any interested buyer must then work with the UK Government.

The sanction on Abramovich is designed to ensure the 55-year-old isn’t making any money in England, and he will not profit from the sale of Chelsea.

Keep an eye on this saga, as things will get more and more difficult for Chelsea with each passing day unless a buyer is found.
