Michael Owen has raved about Arsenal-linked Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins on Amazon Prime Video (7:26pm, March 10, 2022).

Watkins has been linked with Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal for a while, and former Liverpool striker Owen’s comments will surely encourage the Emirates Stadium faithful.

Arsenal linked with Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins

The Sun reported in October 2021 that Arsenal were looking at Watkins as a potential replacement for Alexandre Lacazette in the January transfer window.

ESPN reported in December 2021 Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta personally wanted to sign striker Watkins in the January transfer window.

The Gunners were reportedly looking at the 26-year-old as a possible replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who eventually moved to Barcelona in the January transfer window.

There have been reports this month that Watkins remains on the radar of the Gunners.

After all, the North London club did not sign a replacement for Aubameyang, and both Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are out of contract at Arsenal at the end of the season.

Owen said about Watkins on Amazon Prime Video (7:26pm, March 10, 2022): “I like this lad. In fact, I like him a lot, this lad.

“I mean, he has got a lot more to his game than I thought when I saw him at Brentford.

“He never gives defenders a minute’s peace. He can score goals, he can really rough defenders up, he holds the ball up well.”

Could a transfer happen?

In our opinion, if Arsenal make a good offer for Watkins, then they could well be able to sign the striker Villa paid £28 million for to Brentford in the summer of 2020 (BBC Sport).

Arsenal are a bigger club and are a global brand, and the Gunners could also finish in the Premier League top four this season.

Moreover, Watkins is an Arsenal fan, as he himself said in November 2020 ((The London Evening Standard).

So, in our view, there is a chance that the Gunners could get the striker if they try hard enough.
