Speaking on his podcast, Phil Hay has shared what he knows about Patrick Bamford and his recovery from injury.
The striker came off the bench against Aston Villa on Thursday, but Hay says that his recovery isn’t quite as straightforward as many may have hoped.
Indeed, while Bamford was pictured back in full training last Thursday, Hay claims that those photos may have been slightly misleading, stating that Bamford actually missed a large chunk of that training session as he continued his own individual rehabilitation.
What’s been said?
Hay shared what he knows about Bamford.
“I think people looked on that Thursday and thought ‘well Bielsa has gone and now Bamford is available’, but as it turned out, they weren’t willing to give him more than 10 minutes at Leicester because they weren’t that confident in his fitness, and even in that session on the Thursday, he actually missed quite a large part of it because he went off to do things on his own, again, because he’s still going through this process of recovery,” Hay said.

Can’t rush it
Bamford wasn’t training properly last week, and that explains why he didn’t play against Leicester at the weekend.
Even though a new manager has come in and fitness standards may not be the same as they were under Marcelo Bielsa, you still can’t rush players back from injury.
Bamford is a player that Leeds will want back in the team as soon as possible, but they need to make sure that he’ll be able to contribute properly upon his return.
