The term football WAG is often used to describe players’ partners, but Chelsea’s potential new owner, Nick Candy, actually has a famous wife who we may be hearing a lot more about in the coming months.

However, you’re more likely to find former Neighbours star Holly Valance down at St Mary’s than you are at Stamford Bridge.

Indeed, while her husband is attempting to buy Chelsea from Roman Abramovich, Aussie-born Valance remains a die-hard Southampton supporter.

In fact, back in 2002 when tabloid newspapers were desperate for any football WAG story they could get their hands on, Valance actually spoke about potentially going out with James Beattie, back when the striker was one of England’s brightest young talents.

Beattie’s playing career may have finished, but Valance remains a Saints supporter. The actress turned pop star gets her fandom from her mother who was born in Southampton before emigrating to Australia.

Nick Candy is apparently very interested in purchasing Chelsea, and while a sale will be difficult due to ongoing sanctions against Roman Abramovich, according to the I Newspaper, there is still a route to a sale that Chelsea could explore.

“Nick Candy is actively exploring a number of options for a potential bid for Chelsea,” his spokesperson said in a statement.

“Any bid would be made in conjunction with another party, or consortium, and we have serious interest from several international partners.

“Mr Candy has a huge affinity with Chelsea. His father was asked to play for the club and he has been watching matches at Stamford Bridge since the age of four.”

Whether or not Candy becomes Chelsea’s new owner remains to be seen, but if he does buy the Blues, his wife will have quite a dilemma whenever the London club come up against her beloved Southampton.
