Football London reporter Alasdair Gold has told his YouTube channel that he would be “shocked” if Celtic do not complete a move to sign Tottenham defender Cameron Carter-Vickers – despite Premier League interest.
Carter-Vickers, 24, joined Celtic on loan for the 2021-22 campaign and the Hoops boast a permanent clause to sign him beyond the summer. It has been the best year of his professional career, shining for the Hoops.
The eight-time USA international has clocked up 36 appearances for Celtic already, helping the Scottish outfit keep 17 clean sheets. He has also netted three goals – including one earlier this month, against St. Mirren.
SBI Soccer report that his form at Celtic, despite the permanent clause, is attracting interest from Premier League clubs – notably Wolves and Leicester. The clause is worth £6million, but Spurs rate him at £10million.
Celtic have the chance to get him cheaper. Gold says he would be shocked if the Hoops do not get it done: “Cameron Carter-Vickers, his terrific loan continues. He volleyed home his third of the season against St. Mirren.
“It has been such a successful move. I’d be shocked if Celtic don’t buy him at the end of his loan. They’ve got an option to buy, they’d be mad if they don’t because he’s been smashing it there.”
Gold on Carter-Vickers: Tottenham man must join Celtic permanently
Carter-Vickers has been magnificent at Celtic. He is enjoying his best time of his career at Celtic. Spells out on loan in England have gone well, but it has been in the Championship. At Celtic, it is a different atmosphere.
He has the chance to win trophies, which he already has done in the form of a League Cup. He is playing in Europe, fighting for a title. Celtic must sign him permanently, and Carter-Vickers will know that Celtic is best for him.
Even if it means that he only stays there for two years – gets another 100 appearances under his belt at Celtic – and the chances his arm in the Premier League. He has age on his side, Celtic is his best, next move.
