You would never have guessed that Jesper Lindstrom had gone seven Bundesliga without a goal as the ball broke loose about 35 yards out during Eintracht Frankfurt’s 4-1 hammering of sorry Hertha Berlin on Saturday afternoon.

A less self-confident player would have taken a touch. Perhaps tried to pass the ball and pass the buck. But not Lundstram.

The 22-year-old forward was labelled a ‘magical’ talent by his former manager at Brondby after scoring a stunning long-range goal in 2020.

And, with one flick of his wand of a right-foot, Lindstrom pulled another rabbit out of the hat, lofting a picture-perfect first time shot over the stranded goalkeeper and into the back of the Hertha net.

It’s usually the mark of a great player, when he makes something difficult look effortless.

And while Lindstrom has had his ups and downs since joining Frankfurt for around £6 million last summer, there has been the odd flash of jaw-dropping brilliance, a little glimpse of the talent that had Arsenal and West Ham United chasing the Denmark international’s signature less than 12 months ago, via Jeunes Footeaux.

Is Jesper Lindstrom the Bundesliga’s next superstar?

“I’ve got a strong shot on me from distance,” Lindstrom told the Bundesliga’s official website back in December.

If you wanted evidence of that claim, look no further than Saturday at the Olimpiastadion.

“Jesper is very young and came from a different league,” Frankfurt team-mate Kevin Trapp explains.

“The Bundesliga is a tougher league than the Danish league. You have to get used to it. It’s normal, and everyone in the club and the team knows that.

“Jesper has already made significant steps forward. You can see that he’s an outstanding footballer and has very good technique.”

Frankfurt have an excellent track record when it comes to signing exciting up-and-coming talent and selling them on for a profit. Sebastien Haller, Luka Jovic, Andre Silva earned The Eagles a nest egg in the region of £120 million.

More displays like the last one and, soon enough, we’ll be adding Lindstrom’s to that list.
