Adam Lallana feels Inter Milan ending Liverpool’s unbeaten home record ‘doesn’t matter’ as the Reds still progressed from the Champions League tie, speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live.

The Nerazzurri edged a 1-0 win at Anfield on Tuesday night, but lost the last 16 meeting on aggregate 2-1. Liverpool relied on their first-leg result at the San Siro to reach the quarter-final after absorbing the Serie A side’s pressure once Mateu Lahoz sent Alexis Sanchez off.

Lahoz issued Alexis his marching orders for two yellow card offences just two-minutes after Lautaro Martinez had fired past Alisson. The Argentine lashed a stunning strike into the top corner of the Reds’ net from the edge of the area once Virgil van Dijk elected to stand off.

Liverpool had not lost at Anfield in any competition since March 2021 before hosting Inter Milan in the Champions League. Their previous defeat on home soil came almost a year to the day earlier, with relegation-bound Fulham edging a 1-0 result through Mario Lemina.

Over the following 366-days, Jurgen Klopp’s side played 28 games at Anfield without losing – winning 21, drawing seven. They had also won each of their last seven and conceded just three goals to 20 scored. They also won all three Champions League group stage matches.

Lallana feels Inter Milan ending Liverpool home record ‘doesn’t matter’

Lallana, however, believes Inter Milan ending Liverpool’s unbeaten Anfield run is irrelevant as his former side still progressed into the Champions League quarter-finals on aggregate.

“It doesn’t matter that Liverpool have lost their unbeaten home record,” Lallana stated. “It doesn’t feel like a defeat. They’ve gone through over the course of two legs, and they were relatively comfortable tonight.

“Inter could have capitalised on some nerves from Liverpool after their goal but they didn’t take that chance because of the red card and the momentum shifted back to Liverpool.”

UEFA will conduct the draw for the Champions League quarter-finals featuring Liverpool, not Inter Milan, at their headquarters in Switzerland on Friday, March 18 at 11:00 GMT.
